Which is why the Campbell Live team were surprised to hear about a chap in Timaru who has not one, but three fighter jets.

They're Russian by design - a specialised training aircraft used soviet MIG pilots during the Cold War, now flying friendly skies over south Canterbury.

Hi John. Just to correct the facts about the L29 , while it is true the plane was in the Soviet Union service , It is also true , that it was designed and manufactured in Czechoslovakia, hence the elegant features , and good design for its function /czechoslovakian engineers were making also rockets for Hitler during the second world war/
I myself had a privilege of serving as a member of a ground crew on the L29 -which was a part of our wing. It was a beautiful machine comparing to the crude russian Mig 21's.
