Fashion Week is well underway after designer Cybele Wiren opened day one with her winter collection ‘Virtue’ from her self-titled label.

The collection was inspired by the Victorian era and many designs were based on the structures of flowers and insects.

Lillies featured heavily throughout the show in jewellery, prints and garment design. In many outfits the sculptural forms of the lily appear as panelled, organic, fluted shapes at the hem, neckline and sleeves of garments.

Structured skirts and jackets were key components of the collection and their tailoring reflected the designer’s interest in insects. Many of the skirts were tailored in such a way that they looked like insect wings.

Ruffles, frills and translucent gloves reflected the regiment and formality of the Victorian era.

The Victorian and insect themes tie in nicely as Cybele draws on the idea of recreating the era when Victorian voyagers were discovering new species of flora and fauna.
