Thousands of people have marched in Senegal's capital to call for the departure of aging President Abdoulaye Wade.

The marchers included international pop star Youssou Ndour, who had turned in an application to run against Wade in this month's presidential election. Ndour was disqualified by the court due to a lack of valid signatures.

Unlike previous demonstrations calling for Wade's resignation, Tuesday's march did not take a violent turn.

Four people have been killed in the anti-government demonstrations that began over a week ago, when the constitutional council validated Wade's bid to run for re-election.

The 85-year-old Wade has faced stinging criticism for his decision to run in the Feb. 26 ballot, meaning he could rule into his 90s.
