Three New Zealand short films have been selected as semi-finalists in the first international Your Film Festival.

Ebony Society (writer/director Tammy Davis, ‘Munter’ in Outrageous Fortune) and Media Design School productions Dr Grordborts Presents: The Deadliest Game and Das Tub (both written by Nick Ward and directed by James Cunningham) have been chosen from more than 15,000 films from 160 countries to compete for the US$500,000 grand prize.

Now it’s up to the public to vote for the films they like best on YouTube. The top 10 finalists will screen at the Venice Film Festival, and the winner will get to work with Director Ridley Scott and Prometheus star Michael Fassbender.

“It’s fantastic to have three New Zealand films selected as semi-finalists in this prestigious and innovative competition” says NZFC Chief Executive Graeme Mason.

“I’d encourage everyone to get onto YouTube, check out the films and vote for these great Kiwi shorts”.

Organisers describe the event as a global competition to find the world’s best storytellers.

Ebony Society writer and director Tammy Davis says it’s great to be a semi-finalist and it would be exciting to get the votes and go to Venice.

“It would be amazing to win and incredible to work with Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender on a new project,” says Davis.
