Three people have been arrested following a police investigation into the violent death of a man in the driveway of his Hamilton home early yesterday.

Police say he was bashed on the side of the head with a blunt instrument, while a second man was injured.

The man's body was found at a Bellmont Ave house in suburban Chartwell about 1:30am.

One man has been charged with assaulting the 28-year-old victim, another has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon and a third has been arrested for breaching bail.

At this stage no one has been charged with murder.

Two of the three will appear in court today.

The body of the victim was removed from the scene around 1pm yesterday following a karakia from his family, and a post-mortem will be carried out in Auckland today.
