Three men are recovering from stab wounds, including one man who is in intensive care, following an incident in the Bay of Plenty last night.

Police were called to a house in Te Puke, east of Tauranga, just before 10pm where they found the three men with stab wounds.

Another man, who had been beaten with a hockey stick, was found at a second house, Tauranga police said.

All four men were taken to Tauranga Hospital. Two have since been discharged, one is in a general ward and another is in a stable condition in intensive care.

One of the men, a 35-year-old fruit picker, has been charged with assault. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on Monday.

Further charges are likely.
