Jonny Reid has taken a commanding lead of the V8 SuperTourer series after winning the latest round at Manfeild.

But the former A1 Grand Prix star didn't have it all his way, and he wasn't the only one.

It only took a tiny touch from Andre Heimgartner and Colin Corkery became a passenger in the fairground ride from hell.

A wreck stopped the opening V8 SuperTourer race. Corkery, though, was unscathed.

“I'm okay,” he said. “I'm a bit shaky. The adrenalin's still pumping. I pretty much just held onto the belts and waited for it.”

The crash was one of many as the gloves came off in the day’s opening race.

Bathurst winners Greg Murphy and Steven Richards were scraping for third on the last lap, while Jonny Reid claimed his second win of the weekend from Andy Knight.

But the dampeners were put on Reid’s run, with wet conditions for race two, Greg Murphy taking the lead on lap one while Reid dropped down the order.

Changeable conditions saw a change in the pecking order also, as Paul Manuell and Christchurch's Richard Moore moved up to podium contention.

The university student turned on a lesson in driving as he closed the gap on the second-placed Johnny Mac.

But there was no Moore, with Mac and Murphy holding on for thrilling finish.
