Does not matter if it is a public or private conversation, it is wrong to record or release without either party's approval.

I certainly don't need to hear all the things being said, as even with the short election run-up I am feeling saturated with rhetoric. On the flip side an honest moment recorded is very tempting :) What worries me is that NZer's are seriously debating the pros and cons of recording suspected criminal activity, but on the flip side we throw the linchpin right of that debate - privacy - to the wind. I'm a little ashamed of NZ in that the majority of us, for this conversation, appear to express a believe that privacy is not a right we are all entitled to. It appears to me this one-sided view point, especially when expressed by other political peoples, is for a political gain. Disappointing and distasteful overkill - Key and Banks will suffer from this regardless of whether the public ever hears this conversation. Stand up for our fundamental rights, stick to your believes and you get my vote.

If you want a private meeting to discuss private matters DONT invite the media or hold it in a public place. Good gravy the average 12year old would know that. If you do then its public information because of the office you hold. Susan Isemonger

I imagine like most politicians Key & Banks wouldn't miss a publicity trick and therefore "invited" media to attend the cup of tea meeting. After inviting the media along it doesn't seem right for them to be able to then pick and choose what the media can publish.

Doing this programme about the party, makes you and tv3 just as quilty as the reporter who left the tape.

Waste of time again.

If the 1% want to have a cup of tea and discuss how they are going to continue to screw over the 99%, then the whole thing should be made public, and I'm not just talking about this supposedly innocent "cup of tea" conversation. These shady back room deals need to come to an end, and hopefully the referendum and subsequent revamp of MMP will put an end to this right wing skullduggery.

The reason Brash wasn't invited to 'take tea' (hearty laugh) with John Key was because he clearly states what the National Party intend to do after the election, and National wants to keep that a secret from the voters. As someone said, 'There is so little difference between ACT and National that you could barely slip a cigarette paper between the two". People who vote National at this election will sorely regret it six months down the road after they start selling our national assets and withdrawing the unemployment benefit at a time when there is no work out there for people who would love to work. They really are the party with no social conscience.
