3News NZ

Veteran New Zealand equestrian rider Mark Todd and Quantum Leap lead the three-star Waregem horse trials in Belgium after two days.

Todd, part of New Zealand's bronze medal-winning team at the London Olympics, had a strong dressage component to trail overnight leader Joris van Springel's 45.60 with a solid 46.50.

He then went clear in the showjumping to take the overall lead ahead of Raf Kooremans (Netherlands) on Cavalor Telstar with 48.10. Irishman Geoff Curran and Bolabaun, who also went clear, lie third on 51.90.

Todd also holds 13th with 60.20 in the same event riding Grass Valley, while New Zealand's Megan Heath and St Daniel are ninth on 59.40.
