The heir to the Tongan throne is celebrating the birth of his first son.
The son of Crown Prince Tupouto'a and Princess Sinaitakala was born earlier than expected at Auckland Hospital's maternity unit yesterday.
He was reportedly named Prince Taufa'ahau Manumataongo, Matangi Tonga reported.
The baby was expected to arrive later in May but the princess went into labour on Thursday evening.
The royal couple had been staying at the family home, Tufumahina, in Mt Albert during the pregnancy.
Crown Prince Tupouto'a and Princess Sinaitakala were married in Tonga in July last year. They are both great-grandchildren of the late Queen Salote Tupou III.
Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is set to be discharged from medical care in Auckland in the next day or two.
