Sitting on a park bench and chatting about knitting, Amber Douglas is much more relaxed in person than she appeared on New Zealand's Next Top Model.
Judge Colin Mathura-Jeffree declared her a "crashing bore", but the Dunedin student may have pulled off that rare achievement - appearing on a TV show without embarrassing herself.
The 19-year-old says that while her reserve might not have helped with the judges, it did let her come out of the competition looking professional - something that is vital for her modelling career.
"I think... part of my personality, it is a little bit controlled, I do think of how people are going to think of me," she says.
She hopes Aroha wins the competition - "she wants it the
most" - and picks Brigette and Issy as the other two
finalists.
Amber is studying in Dunedin and has one year to go on a fashion degree - something that she's both passionate about and good at, judging from the cute velvet shorts she made herself and is wearing to the interview.
While Amber's glad she managed to "avoid having a meltdown" on the programme, she admits it was "stressful being judged on everything you do".
That stress may have led to one of the show's more memorable moments, when Amber and fellow contestant AJ had a pinata at their joint birthday party in the house.
AJ didn't manage to hit it at all - "She wasn't even blindfolded!" Amber says - but when it was Amber's turn the pinata was not only knocked to the ground but utterly destroyed.
When asked about it, Amber looks momentarily embarrassed, then giggles. "It's good to let go of some stress sometimes."
