The British clothing chain credited with bringing high fashion to the high street is about to invade our stores.
Topshop has struck a deal with designer Karen Walker to stock a limited range of garments at the same price you can get them online.
The future Auckland home of the Topshop range is a swanky new department store, opened late last year on Auckland’s North Shore.
Topshop made its name making high fashion affordable – but don’t expect bargain bin prices.
“An entry level piece, like a pair of gloves, would cost about $30,” says fashion blogger Isaac Hindin Miller of Isaaclikes.com.
“A more high-end piece, like a leather jacket, would cost about $300 – so probably more expensive than other chain stores like Glassons in New Zealand.”
The chain is renowned for creating shopping chaos – like when Kate Moss launched her range in 2007.
The styles we will see in New Zealand have been hand-picked by Walker.
Speaking on TV3’s Sunrise this morning, she said the items will be on racks in New Zealand just days after they are released in London.
“We’ll select from there what we think is right for this environment,” says Walker.
“Because we do weekly buys, we’ll work with them in between our big trips.”
The first shipments will be just women’s wear, but menswear range “Top Man” will be arriving later in the year.
