Heavy rain overnight delayed racing in the National Mountain Bike Cup in Dunedin and local rider Justin Leov was back in action after he missed the opening round.

Steady showers yesterday soaked the Dunedin track, turning many sections into a difficult mud run, delaying the start of racing and making it tough going for the riders.

“It’s probably going to be a race of tactical decisions I think. Going too fast in slippery conditions that we’ve still got is quite risky, so I guess our guys will be trying to minimise that risk,” says Downhill Cup organiser Chris Mildon.

A brand new course was built for the Dunedin round, including some challenging sections down Signal Hill.

Cross Country riders take over the mountain tomorrow, with the National Series moving on to Christchurch next weekend.
