A coroner has criticised the public's attitude towards water safety in just-released findings over the death of a young girl on Lake Taupo.

Nine-year-old Genevieve Lewis died back in 2009 when she was struck by a boat after she fell off her water skis.

Coroner Wallace Bain has just released his findings into the accident, and says rules around maritime law need to be reformed to include tougher penalties, and better education for boaties.
