There have been many debates over Australians claiming New Zealand’s greatest as their own and it seems Tourism New Zealand has given in.

“What's ours is yours” is the latest advertising campaign currently running across the ditch in a bid to entice Australian holiday makers.

It is a joint campaign between Tourism New Zealand and Pacific Blue will see Australians offered discounted airfares and travel packages through television and print advertising.

“We want to be in market now to stimulate bookings over the pre- and post-Christmas and New Year peaks to spread Australian travel more widely over that important time in the tourism calendar,” says Tourism New Zealand chief executive Kevin Bowler.

In the year to September, 1,121,761 Australians visited New Zealand - an increase of 7.3 percent on the year to September 2009.

Mr Bowler says partnerships, with key players in the industry like Pacific Blue, is part of their marketing strategy to 2013.

“We want to do more partnerships that help us deliver more visitors and give us a clearer ‘line of sight’ to measuring our success through sales.”

The “What’s Ours is Yours” campaign coincides with Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism’s “Best Kept Secrets Campaign” which started in Australia on October 24.

The Christchurch campaign is fronted by Cantabrian native and Amazing Race presenter Phil Keoghan.

Hamilton has also started an online and print campaign with Pacific Blue.
