Plans for a 15-storey brothel opposite Auckland's Skytower have raised concerns about what the tourists will think.

SkyCity Entertainment Group general counsel Peter Treacy has reservations about New Zealand's first high-rise brothel, which Wellington brothers John and Michael Chow have applied to build on the site of the historic Palace Hotel on Victoria Street West.

"We think it's less than ideal having the likes of foreigners and children who are visiting the SkyTower facing that," Mr Treacy told the New Zealand Herald.

"There's a lot of tourists and diverse people and it's not ideal to have that opposite New Zealand's top tourist destination. Over the last 12 months, over 600,000 people have visited the Tower."

The 328m SkyTower is the tallest man-made structure in New Zealand and is one of the prime tourist attractions in Auckland's CBD.

SkyCity has made significant investments recently, expanding gaming facilities above the SkyCity Hotel and developing new restaurants on Federal Street.

The Auckland Council has yet to decide whether the consent application should be notified, giving the wider public a say.
