Carcinogens have been found in children’s bubble bath products.

Unbelievable – except that throughout the beauty industry there are ingredients with dubious health benefits.

Take diethanolamine for example – it helps turn creamy shampoo into foaming bubbles when rubbed into your hair.

According to the National Toxicology Programme in the US, when tested on mice there was clear evidence of carcinogenicity.

There is said to be no risk from limited exposure but many people use these products daily and the beauty industry has not always told us what is in them.

New Zealand is introducing mandatory ingredients labelling for all cosmetics in July.

But many of the ingredients are chemicals – with names meaningless to most.
