Train kills pedestrian in Wellington

A man in his sixties is dead after being struck by a train in Lower Hutt, north of Wellington, this afternoon.
The accident occurred at Wingate Station just north of Avalon shortly before 1:30 and involved the Wairarapa passenger train.
The scene remains cordoned off.
Rail services in the Hutt Valley have been disrupted with trains replaced by buses, including the Masterton to Wellington service.
