Nine Inch Nails composer Trent Reznor has created the theme song for upcoming game Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
The ‘Closer’ hitmaker says he is also working on new Nine Inch Nails material and has finished the first full album with his side project How To Destroy Angels.
Reznor, who has received acclaim for film scores The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, has previously worked on music for games Quake and Doom 3. Jack Wall is composing the bulk of the Call of Duty: Black Ops II score around Reznor's theme song.
In an interview with USA Today, Reznor says he was happy Black Ops II developers Treyarch let him ‘get out of the zone with something a little bit different’ on the soundtrack.
“[I wanted to have the score] arranged semi-orchestrally, but let's have the voice be an instrument. Let's veer it more toward guitar, bass, drum rock band aggression,” says Reznor.
The composer says he is a big Call of Duty fan, has played almost every release in the franchise’s history and has 'generally been focused on multiplayer'.
Black Ops II is set in 2025 when a cold war has broken out between China and the USA. During the stand-off, a terrorist hijacks US military drone weaponry to try and ignite the two powers into all-out warfare.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is set for a release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Wii U November 13.
