There is a risk ratio known as Heinrich's Accident Pyramid which states that for every 300 unsafe acts, 29 result in minor injury, and one will result in a major injury such as death or disability.

So if you apply that to risky driving on the roads, near misses take on a new meaning, and with 80,000 visitors expected for the Rugby World Cup, that's a lot of extra people on our roads.

How much more dangerous will that make life for motorists?

Sorry guys, that extra 80,000 is less than we normally have during Feb/Mar and certainly less than Xmas. Also, the majority are coming from commonwealth countries (England, Scotland, Wales, Australia ... etc) and they share 'common' driving laws. As for campervans, of that 75K, only a small portion are registered as rentals.
While you were looking in the right direction, it looks like you were distracted by the dramatic footage from the truckcams. Before we hammer the tourists, lets take a good look at Kiwis.

Great article guys, as a truck driver myself, this really does highlight what we go through on a daily basis.. other motorists really do need to learn to hang back, we always move left when its safe to do so. Dave, Wellington truck driver.
