Auckland motorists experienced severe delays after a truck and trailer overturned today, closing off a chunk of the Southern Motorway.

The truck rolled just north of the East Tamaki Rd northbound onramp on Auckland’s Southern Motorway (State Highway 1).

Northbound ramps at Redoubt Rd, Te Irirangi Dr and East Tamaki Rd were closed, but have since reopened.

The NZ Transport Authority said northbound traffic was down to one lane and all lanes had to be closed to recover the crashed vehicle. Traffic was diverted at Manukau.

All diversions have now been lifted and all lanes are open again as usual.

Who's to say, that the 'one moron' as mentioned in a previous comment is the truckie?! It's more likely to be 'one moron' in a car that caused it, so don't be so quick to knock the truckies! :)

slowing down trucks wont fix problems on motorways car drivers need to stop being so impaient and cutting trucks off and lane hopping trucks dont just fall over least this is a change from the usual nose to tails that happen everyday by car drivers .
