It has been almost two years since David Tua stepped into the ring, but his trainer believes “the Tuaman” is in some of the best shape of his career.
Roger Bloodworth has trained some of the best fighters in the world and intends on helping Tua not only beat Shane Cameron, but the best in the world.
Tua will knock gloves with Cameron in 53 days and the trash talk is still strong.
“I was wondering maybe I shouldn't stare at him too hard, just in case he might get cut,” says Tua.
Tua is speaking with confidence after shedding some excess weight due to a strict training schedule.
He currently weighs in at 113 kilograms, around five away from his fight weight - having already lost an impressive 21kg.
He admits the work in the gym has been a test of character.
“I could've walked away, I could've quit, said ‘what the hell with it’,” he says.
“But for me it's important, I know I’m doing this for the right reason but you know the first week it was important I put myself through that.”
Tua is in good hands with Bloodworth previously trained Evander Holyfield to four world titles and worked with some of the best fighters in the world.
He says Tua is right up with the best fighters.
“In terms of physical ability and mental toughness I rate him up there with the best,” says Bloodworth.
“I actually believe David has a real good chance of becoming a world champion.”
