It is a book slash movie franchise to rival harry Potter, and fans of the Twilight series will already be getting ready for the second instalment New Moon coming to cinemas next month.

Bronson Pelletier, who plays a werewolf, is in Auckland for the Armageddon expo.

But banish all thoughts of yellow fangs and furry faces – in the Twilight movies the shape shifters are buffed, bronzed and – according to the women in the office – hot.

“The vampires have a very serious demeanour so when they’re on set they’re chilled, serious, when the wolves get on set that is when the party starts,” says Pelletier.

The 22-year-old French-Canadian plays Jared – one of the wolf pack in Twilight sequel New Moon.

The first film grossed $383 million at the Box Office, and anointed stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart the king and queen of young Hollywood.

“They can’t even go out without being harassed by paparazzi or fans – it’s a big huge pandemonium with this thing. It hasn’t hit me yet because the movie hasn’t come out,” says Pelletier.

“I’m just going to take it for what it is and just have fun with it.”

Changing into a wolf is easy – it’s done with CGI – but getting into shape to seen legions of teen fan’s hearts a flutter was the hard part, Pelletier says.

“We were on strict diets, we worked out an hour and a half each day, we were doing stuff like Muay Thai, Brazilian jujitsu, conditioning strength training – it was pretty intense stuff.”

Pelletier is on the convention circuit, appearing at the Armageddon expo in Auckland this weekend.

“I’ve met screaming fans, I’ve met crying fans, I’ve met fans that can’t even talk,” he says.

That is before any of the Twilight films he is in being released.

That will all change when the latest in the series hits theatres next month.

I am slightly appalled at the misspelling of Twilight in this article. For such a large franchise one would assume that a reporter would be able to spell the name correctly. Always edit your work and check things twice . . .
