Police have arrested two men following a gang brawl involving hammers, golf clubs and axes outside a Napier supermarket.

Two men were taken to hospital after they were attacked by at least four weapon-wielding assailants, in what is believed to be a Mongrel Mob versus Black Power clash, yesterday afternoon.

The melee happened near Pak 'n Save Tamatea on Leicester St.

Both victims were treated for moderate injuries then released.

Two men were arrested overnight in connection with the incident and would face weapons related charges in the Napier District Court this morning, said Sergeant Wendy Wright of Napier police.

Police were still seeking further witnesses to the battle and appealed for sightings of either group leading up to the fight and a red Honda Prelude, licence plate YM9313.
