Two people have died in separate incidents in the small town of Omokoroa in the Bay of Plenty over the weekend.

A local man was found dead in Omokoroa Harbour on Saturday afternoon.

He is believed to have drowned after becoming separated from his dinghy, Senior Sergeant Wayne Lambert told the Bay of Plenty Times.

This morning, a woman's body was found on a popular walkway between The Esplanade and Beach Grove shortly before 6am.

Mr Lambert said it was too early to determine whether her death was suspicious.

Omokoroa is 20 kilometres northwest of Tauranga, in the Tauranga Harbour.
