Two fires in Christchurch's red-zone during the weekend were deliberately lit, police say.

The Fire Service was called to a storage yard in New Brighton about 12:30am yesterday where a bus and truck were on fire.

A short time later a fire was discovered at a nearby abandoned red-stickered house.

Detective Dion Murray says the house was almost completely gutted by the fire and, he says, both fires appear to have been lit deliberately.

Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw anyone acting suspiciously.
