Two more jail terms in Arrowtown kidnap

Two Queenstown men have been jailed for at least three years each for their part in the kidnapping and vicious beating of a man following an unhappy drug deal last year.
Brodie O'Rourke, 24, and Michael Coulter, 25, were sentenced in Queenstown District Court today, after earlier admitting charges related to the kidnapping and attack on Jason Maynard in November last year.
The kidnapping and attack, at the top of the Crown Range near Arrowtown, involved up to eight people and was sparked by the pair feeling "ripped off" following a drug deal, the Otago Daily Times reports.
O'Rourke, who instigated the assault and kidnap, was to sentenced three years, six months' prison and ordered to pay Mr Maynard $3000.
Coulter was sentenced to three years in prison and was also ordered to pay Mr Maynard $3000.
Judge Kevin Phillips said the attack was premeditated. The group had met at O'Rourke's house to plan the attack and weapons had been taken to the top of the Crown Range.
Mr Maynard was put into a car by the two after being kicked, punched, head-butted and O'Rourke held a meat cleaver held to his throat.
He was then taken to Arrowtown and dumped on the side of the road.
Some of the men wore balaclavas during the assault and had burned their clothes.
Three others involved in the attack have already received jail and home detention sentences.
