A man who buried his fiancée alive in a cardboard box has been found guilty of attempted murder by a British court.
More than six months after being buried alive, Michelina Lewandowska still has nightmares.
Her fiancée tried to kill her when their relationship soured so he could get custody of their three-year-old son.
With her wrists and ankles bound, he put her in this cardboard box and dug a shallow grave in woodland near their home in Leeds.
Today police read a statement on her behalf at court.
“I feared that my life was going to end and that I was going to die,” read Detective Constbale Christine Freeman. “I prayed to God that he would help me survive so that I could look after my young son.
“The thought of my son gave me the strength to fight my way out of the box and save myself.”
The court heard that Marcin Kasprzak was bored of his fiancée.
He shot her with a taser at their home before he and a friend drove her to the woodland.
Still alive but struggling to breathe, Ms Lewandowska used her engagement ring to cut through the tape and dig herself free.
Detective Chief Inspector Lisa Griffin says he has shown himself to be an “unpleasant intimidator of a vulnerable woman” and she is pleased he is behind bars.
Kasprzak will be sentenced next month for attempted murder.
