Controversial TV drama Skins has been cancelled in the US.

MTV bosses came under fire from TV viewers and decency watchdogs when they revamped the hit British series for American audiences and debuted it in January.

Officials at the Parents Television Council called the show "dangerous television for children" and called for an official investigation to make sure producers weren't guilty of breaking laws.

A number of high profile advertisers pulled their promos over the fuss, but MTV bosses insisted they would stand by the show, which featured sex and drug-taking scenes.

But the show has now been scrapped after just one season, according to Deadline.com.
