Not long now until a lot of us will be loading up the car with food and kids and heading off to our favourite holiday spots.
But a lot of those holiday homes just became a whole lot more expensive, as a result of a recent court decision. The ruling relates to baches that may have started life as a caravan or bus but over the years have lost their mobility and had extensions added on.
The Thames District Council decided those baches should have had building consents. When a Coromandel holiday park appealed against that decision the court of appeal agreed with the council.
The bad news is that owners of buildings could be paying up to $3,000 to comply.
There is the quite unclear question; When is a caravan a building?
