After sleeping off the excesses of Christmas lunch it appears Kiwis wasted little time in getting rid of their unwanted gifts.
Gifts that failed to hit the mark have flooded online auction site Trade Me with more than 18,000 already listed.
But don't think for a minute that you'll only find the usual suspects such as juicers, popcorn makers, jewellery, DVDs and linen - there is the unusual and downright unique too.
Spare a thought for the husband who must have thought that he had ticked all the boxes by getting his wife a red Toyota convertible only for the intended recipient to reject it.
"Unwanted Christmas Gift! Go figure. Wife says too fast and too low to the ground and will not drive it. Now reluctantly for sale," read the listing.
An expensive blunder as the seller wants $13,500 for it.
For the tacky there is the set of 15 ornamental pigs and for the person who wants something just that little bit different there's a sheep calendar crafted from stone for $20.
Trade Me spokesman Paul Ford says it is becoming more common to see Christmas gifts end up on the site and there was a noticeable surge in new listings from 7pm on Christmas Day.
"Lots of New Zealanders kicked back at the end of the day and worked out what they had two or three of, what didn't fit, what they didn't like, then spent some time listing these items online before they went to bed," he said.
Mr Ford says while a survey earlier this month found that 29 per cent of New Zealanders thought it was acceptable to regift a Christmas present, selling them on had wider acceptance.
"We did a poll online in 2009 and 65 per cent of people said it was okay to sell unwanted gifts. Maybe wrapping it up and passing it along to someone else is less acceptable than simply selling it?"
