Police are treating the death of a man found under an Upper Hutt bridge as unexplained.
The body was found under the Totara Park bridge and police were called just after 1pm on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Christiaan Barnard says police are in the process of notifying the 47-year-old man's next of kin.
The cause of the man's death is still to be determined and it's being treated as unexplained at this stage, he said.
A post-mortem examination will be done on Tuesday morning.
