Usher has donated fees paid for performing at a Gadhafi concert to charity

Usher has become the latest celebrity to hand money to charity after accepting a hefty fee to appear at a concert connected to Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi.
A number of stars, including Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Nelly Furtado, have admitted being paid to sing for the dictator’s relatives.

Following the uprising in the country and controversy over Gadhafi’s refusal to stand down as leader, all three singers have promised to hand their fee to good causes.

Usher has now confirmed he was paid to appear at a 2009 New Year’s Eve party hosted by the dictator’s son, Muatassim Gadhafi, on the Caribbean island of St. Barts, and he has vowed to give the cash to charity in light of recent events.

A statement from the R&B star reads, “I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Bart’s event that took place on New Year’s Eve 2009. I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations.”

Usher’s representative has insisted the star has already made a donation to Amnesty International and will continue to hand cash to other human rights charities throughout the year, according to America’s ABC news.

I doubt that this will help. Usher and the other stars who were paid handsomely for performances at Gadhafi family parties will always be known for their willingness to entertain despots and tyrants provided the price is right. Integrity can't be bought - you either have it or you don't.

This just shows how pathetically shallow and morally flexible some of our "stars" are. Where the hell did they think people like Gaddafi got their money from? Hard work? Ingenious ideas? Not bloody likely. They are, and always have been brutal dictators who stole from their own people and anyone with half a brain would have known this in advance of 2009. I bet some Lockerbie families could have done with a charity gig instead. They should be pariahs but instead they get sung to by mariahs. How about just not performing for terrorist dictators to feather your own nest?
