Kapiti Coast residents have marched on Parliament today in protest against the proposed Kapiti expressway, which will require more than 60 houses in the region to be demolished.

The $550 million, four lane expressway will include an interchange similar to the one near Wellington, and Mr Joyce has said the project is needed to reduce congestion on State Highway 1.

The protest began at noon today at Parliament.

Gary, the Western Link Road which would have been under construction by now was a perfect fit for the Kapiti community and also a solution for SH1 congestion. Congestion on SH1 is not the reason people die in road accidents, I'd like to see your statistics on that one. It could be said that more people die from diesel pollution! This road is not being proposed for you and your car trip, it is for trucks and industry. You are paying for it and you will only get back 60c for every dollar you spend.
