New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez flew into a media storm in Mexico City on Thursday (January 19) as he inaugurates a gym in the capital.
Accompanied by his pro-wrestler girlfriend Torrie Wilson, the 36-year-old baseball player told a packed news conference that despite a shaky recovery from a knee injury in the recent league he remains as motivated as ever.
"As they say the most important thing is health. I am training, not necessarily stronger but more intelligently, so that I can maintain my health. And with health anything is possible. In my career of 17 years I never thought of the past, you always need to think of the present and get up and thank God because I'm one of the happiest people on earth," said Alex Rodriguez.
Born to a Dominican family in New York City, the Latin baseball star hopes his celebrity status will inspire troubled youth in Mexico City to success.
"At 37 years of age I hope I can have a positive influence, not just in production but also as a leader for young people. Not only just in our team but also in other teams. Many people ask me for advice and help and its a part of my career that I am enjoying," he added.
Dubbed A-Rod by fans, Rodriguez is considered one of the best all-round baseball players of all times. The youngest batsman to ever hit 500 home runs, his long-term contract with the New York Yankees has made him one of the richest sporting stars in the United States
