Maybe what Taylor needed was a break from Captaincy. It has never been an easy job for any Captain, and worse when NZ been doing poorly.

Stephen Flemming had a terrible run at one stage and yet that turned around to be one of NZ best captancies. Its obvious there has been friction between managment and Taylor which appears to have little to do with his batting or even how NZ has been performing. From the sidelines we can't tell where the problem was, yet historically such problems tend to be from both sides.

The reality is NZ is a small country so will always find it hard up against much larger countries.

But as shown with the SA ODI series, even when down, never count us out.
