A group of winners and one driver still waiting to score his first victory gathered at Circular Quay in Sydney.

Larry Perkins, Russell Ingall and Steven Richards have 10 wins at Mount Panorama between them.

Along with championship contender Mark Winterbottom, it was a unique opportunity to explore the history of Australia’s greatest motor race while drawing comparisons between the current cars and the Perkins/Ingall Bathurst winner from 1997 which was on show.

Perkins’ and Ingall’s victory in 1995 was hotly talked about, when despite a puncture at the first turn, they stormed back through the field from a lap down to win the race.

It is the only time any team has come back from a lap down to win Australia's greatest motor race.

That performance cemented Perkins' status as one of the greats and provided Ingall the platform to become a fulltime driver in V8 Supercars.

Ingall will once again be on-track this weekend in the Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore.

Winterbottom and Richards head to the race this weekend as one of the favourites with the factory Ford squad of Orrcon Steel FPR.

They recently finished second at the Sandown 500 and Winterbottom is right in the mix in the championship chase.
