Ben Spies, the winner of the 2011 Netherlands MotoGP, set the fastest time in the second practice ahead of the Netherlands Grand Prix.
The United States rider, clocked one minute 34 seconds on a Yamaha, six hundredths of a second ahead of Briton Cal Crutchlow, also riding an Yamaha. Crutchlow was still recovering from a fractured left ankle.
Third place went to Ducati's Nicky Hayden of the United States. Spaniard Alvaro Bautista was fourth on a Honda and Spies' teammate Jorge Lorenzo finished fifth with fellow Spaniard Dani Pedrosa completing the top six.
Lorenzo leads the standings with 140 points, 25 ahed of Australian Casey Stoner who was 10th in the second practice. Pedrosa is third overall with 101 points.
Pol Esparagaro of Spain clocked dominated the Moto2 class, clocking the fastest time of one minute 38.421 seconds, with Italian Andrea Iannone second followed by Dominique Aegerter of Switzerland in third and Spain's Marc Marquez in fourth place.
Marc Marquez leads the Moto2 championship race 102, six ahead of Espargaro and Thomas Luethi who are tied in second place with 96 points.
Maverick Vinales of Spain was the quickest in the Moto3 category in one minute 44.312 seconds, leaving Miguel Oliveira of Portugal second.
Vinales leads the stangins with 103 points, with Sandro Cortese second on 115.
