It took less than 10 seconds for the Christchurch Radio Network House to be leveled this morning, after a controlled implosion just after dawn.

A six-year-old boy from Queenstown had the honours of pressing the detonation button at 8am.

The 14-storey office block was beyond repair and the explosive demolition helped to save time and money.

The 6500-tonne building - as heavy as six fully-laden jumbo jets - came crashing down in less than 10 seconds, leaving a pile 15m to 20m high.

Watch a full replay of the implosion.
