The 10th Christmas tree tossing world championships took place in the town of Weidenthal in southern Germany, where the festive period was 'thrown out' and the New Year welcomed in.
47 year-old Frank Schwender from the nearby town of Frankeneck was the star of the show once again - he retained his title with a total distance of 20.3 metres over the three Christmas tree throwing disciplines - 'Weitwurf' (javelin-style), 'Hammerwurf' (hammer-style) and 'Hochwurf' (high jump-style).
"I'm very happy to be, for the second time, the world champion and it's not possible to make some training or something, yeah, but very important is to have the right alcohol with the gluhwein," says Christmas tree throwing world champion Frank Schwender.
"I like this tournament very much because not only is it the world championship, it's everything around. Great disco party, fireworks, live music... and so it's a 24 hours party," he says.
