Dane Coles is convinced he scored the controversial match winning try despite inconclusive video evidence in the Hurricanes 28-25 win over the Chiefs.

TMO Mike Fraser was in the spotlight in the 85th minute when Coles barrelled over the line and the decision was referred upstairs.

The video evidence couldn’t undoubtedly show whether the ball has been grounded or not but the Hurricanes hooker is sure he scored the match winner.

"I definitely got it down. You never know with those TMOs but I'm just glad he made the right call, made the right decision," Coles told Fairfax NZ.

"I was a bit nervous watching.  I was worried. I definitely got it down, but with those angles and stuff, yeah, but he made the right decision. I thought the ball hit the chalk. The calls been made and there will be a T next to my name," he said.

When the try was awarded the Caketin erupted into cheers with reserve hooker Motu Matu'u lifting his fellow forward up to celebrate the try.

The Chiefs first try should have been disallowed as Kerr-Barlow used the referee which disallowed chris eaton a chance to get the tackle. Also lock Brodie REtallick was holding Cory Jane back. Benifit of the doubt should go in favour of the attacking team and i believe that the refs got it right. Kaplan however had a poor night in other areas I.E yellow card, penalising Canes players when lying on the ball where he constantly just warned the Chiefs players.

Ball clearly was not placed (at least according to the footage), and there was an obvious second attempt at the line. Chiefs beaten by the TMO 2 weeks in a row.
