There can be only one… is by no means true anymore. Not when it comes to American football players running in the wrong direction anyway.
‘The wrong way run’ was made famous by professional Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall in 1964 when he went all the way against the San Francisco 49ers. Then, Marshall recovered a fumble and ran 66 yards into his own end zone.
But last week a US college football star emulated the Marshall mishap, only to be cut down in a tackle that stopped him running into his own end zone.
Ohio Kent State University’s linebacker Andre Packer charged after a punt against Maryland’s Towson University. The ball tumbled on the ground and Packer picked it up at the opposition 7 yard line and ran 58 yards… in the wrong direction, before being knocked down.
