Fans flocked to Shanghai Pudong International Airport as Didier Drogba prepared to continue his football career in the world's most populated country.
The Ivorian international will be presented as a Shanghai Shenhua player later before the club's home match against Beijing Guoan.
Amid a large police presence, supporters yelled and chanted as the former Chelsea forward exited the airport.
Many held a poster of Drogba in one hand, while attempting to take a photograph with the other.
Having scored the winning penalty in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final, Drogba was free to look for a new footballing challenge.
He chose the Chinese Super League, and with join up once again with former Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka at Shanghai.
Thirty-four year-old Drogba, who has agreed a contract until 2014, could get his first run out for Shanghai in a friendly against Manchester United on 25th July.
