England has made a strong start to the third and final test match against South Africa at Lord’s, that will decide who the world’s best are.

South Africa only need to avoid defeat to win the series and top the rankings, but it was England making the early inroads.

James Anderson removed South Africa captain Graeme Smith while Steven Finn took the wickets of Alviro Peterson, Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis to leave the Proteas struggling at 54-4.

South Africa’s middle to lower order added some respectability, JP Duminy top scoring with 61.

But they finished the first day of the third test at 262 for 7.
