The future of the ChristChurch Cathedral is still up in the air, two years after the February earthquake.

It is one of the best known buildings in the country, but there are deep divisions about what to do with it. The church wants it demolished, others want it saved.

Hamish Clark was in the square on the day of the February quake and has got a camera inside the building for the first time in over a year.

Here are the latest pictures of what it looks like.

Yes, it looks a mess but I don't feel it's as bad as the Catholic Cathedral. We are continually told it is unsafe, but after so many aftershocks it's still standing.

So sad to see. If the cathedral has to be demolished there are aspects that can and should be saved for posterity - albeit re-used in a new building so all is not lost forever...something of the original should remain. I would rather see the Cathedral restored to its former glory if at all possible.

After viewing the inside of the Cathedral i was surprised it was not a lot worse than it is. Its such a beautiful building, i would love like to see it fixed up, but the cost could prevent this, unless all of New Zealand got behind it and fundraised the money.
