New Zealand scored an easy 36-goal win over South Africa in Adelaide on Sunday to open their campaign in the quad series netball competition.

The Silver Ferns led by 14 goals at half-time and then cruised to the 63-27 victory, the world's number two team putting on a clinic for the big crowd at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

New Zealand even had the luxury of leaving legendary shooter Irene van Dyk on the bench until the second half.

In an impressive third quarter display she hit a perfect 16 goals from 16 attempts while captain Casey Williams was too strong and too tall for a South African team giving away height in almost every position.

Goal shooter Christina Bootha tried hard for the South Africans, shooting 19 goals from 22 attempts, while goal keeper Vanes-Mari du Toit battled all game against almost impossible odds.

The Silver Ferns take on England next in Newcastle on Wednesday when Australia play South Africa.
