The amount of social media coverage the Occupy Wall Street protests are getting – far outweighs the stories we are receiving from traditional media.

Thank you for this James Murray, thank you for sharing this email, and thank you for any coverage of this event. This movement and protest is human beauty. Please everyone, STAND UP AND BE HEARD. WE ARE THE 99% ! Share any information you can with friends and family. Support change in which ever way you can! The media are not giving enough attention to this. We must spread the truth ourselves.

@Mike - I am a member of the mainstream media. And I can guarantee you I am not driven by corporate or government interests. It just isn't how things work in my experience. I admit I don't know for sure about other news organisations, but I have never seen anything like what you describe at 3 News. There is certainly general misunderstanding and mistrust about how the media operates and I think there are things for both journalists and the public to learn as the way news is reported changes. There are plenty of driven journalists here who seek to bring you the truth and our focus tends to be on New Zealand news - look at the standard of reporting we have put out on the Christchurch Earthquake and Pike River (both TV and online). We have also managed to get overseas for many large stories this year - the Haiti earthquake, UK riots, Thailand Civil Violence and more. I'd ask you to put your thoughts in perspective - do you really think we strive to not tell the truth. We are in fact trying to incorporate new forms of media into the way we report - social media being one of those - hence this blog and other online work we do on a regular basis. This is an example of mainstream media reporting in the way that you think is correct, yet you still criticise us for not doing our job!
