After months of protests around the world the occupy movement is now starting to be rattled by authorities.

Police have removed the camp in New York, legal proceedings have begun in London, and here in New Zealand councils are threatening action.

So after all this have the protesters achieved what they were hoping for?

The protesters have until tomorrow to respond to the council with a leaving date.

Occupy Wellington member Joel Carpenter spoke to Firstline today.

Nice one TV3, you have just proved yet again how totally unconnected and bigoted your really are. Thank God I threw out the TV years ago, and started opening my eyes to the real world, rather than the blatantly controlled media you pass off as news.

This is typical of the rich 1% they scream democracy when its suits them, and when they dont get what they want thier like babies they throw their rattles and get the police which support the capitalist system to do their dirty work, because like rich cowards everywhere they dont have the balls to do it themselves. violence and revolution are the only langauge they understand.

What a ridiculous attempt at an interview. This is incredibly poor. I thought TV3 were better than this. A pure shame.

She clearly hasn't been camping if she thinks you urinate next to your tent... And if she doesn't have a grasp of such a simple example of kiwi culture than I'm certainly not going to trust her to have a grasp of the New Zealand economy or any cons or even pros related to it. TV3 did itself a disservice putting her on the show.

Dear TV3 I'm really not sure who you were trying to appeal to with such blatantly biased and reductive questions. Does this count as 'journalism' by your standards? By seeking to expose the Occupy Wellington participants as unhygienic and without purpose, did you hope to generate informed debate? Have you actually researched anything to do with the Occupy protests? Do you recognise them as part of a WORLDWIDE movement born out of absolute frustration with the way in which the capitalist system has been manipulated by those in power, to benefit those in power? Have you seen videos online where the abuse of state power has not only harmed citizens exercising their right to peaceful assembly, but has actually provided concrete examples of how that power has been corrupted? Did the uprisings in the Arab world, for which Occupy is seen and will continue to be seen as historically related, signal anything to you? Was it easier to champion those revolutions because when the people of those nations made a claim to democracy it was thrilling because you never knew they had a voice in the first place? To ask, "Haven't you made your point? Shouldn't you move one?" is so incredibly narrow minded it is beyond belief. It is remarkable that Mr. Carpenter managed to stay so calm, given the sheer stupidity of what he was asked. Two months into this movement and everyone knows that there is no easy solution; the multiple and complex issues at stake demand thorough analysis. However, this much is obvious: a WORLDWIDE public attempt is being made to articulate that which cannot be articulated: an alternative discourse to the one that is legitimised and enforced by the prevailing power structure and its ideological apparatus. I seriously hope that you understand what this means and are aware of how important it actually is. Yours sincerely, Sean Grattan New Zealand Citizen

I am impressed with the way you handled the condesending interview. You were able to raise a number of important though usually under-covered related issues whilst derailing the interviewers attempt to make the occupations look bad.

I'm sorry Joel had to sit through such a small-minded person asking such unintelligent questions. Well done for keeping your cool, i'm sure the temptation to fire back was very tempting. If only we all had $100,000+ jobs to fire up the economy :-)

This movement is the beginning, this will not end. As the world population grows and the strain on resources increases more and more people will realise there is not enough to go around if some have a lot and others have little. I see the occupy movement as a sign of the times. You can bag them, beat them, try and rid of them but it won't work. They will only grow in popularity and support.
