Half a dozen protesters managed to break through heavy security at the New Zealand Petroleum Summit in Wellington this morning.

Four young women burst into the conference during the Energy Minister Phil Heatley’s opening address, chanting and handing out leaflets before being taken out by security guards.

Two others were stopped on their way in and escorted from the Amora Hotel where the conference is being held.

Mr Heatley joked that the women were there because they hated the industry not him.

The women were not arrested.

If there was any better solution - don't you think they would've already taken it? These protestors are hypocrits and damage the world just by buying food, cars, petrol, make-up and using electricity to heat their showers. New Zealand like most countries is in high demand for energy and no re-newable and cleaner resource is ever cheaper to use and maintain. Fossil fuels on the other hand are cheaper to use meaning they can actually maintain their plants, but no, people don't think about this. It is our fault as consumers that we are so reliant on energy just as much as the petrol companies that sell it. Stop being deluded, and start taking responsibility for your own actions.

Wind farms lose money and do not/have not made electricity bills lower.
Solar Energy companies lose money and initial cost is high for purchaser before any real savings are realised.
Bio fuel is killing the forests quicker than any other 'green scheme'.
So what renewable way are you thinking of that will not include Govt. subsidies to keep the companies afloat and subsidies the customers to 'go green' and indeed be a wonder of the modern world as all others have failed miserably so far around the world.

The anti-oil mentality of this group is just Eco-fascionistas showing off for their mates and the cameras. Once the protest is over it's back to Starbucks and and nice Americana. Have a go Richard & Mike and experiment with living more lightly. It's not that difficult to lower our fossil fuel use, it's actually more fun and healthy. You'll make some mistakes along the way and that's ok, this isn't an eco-saint competition. But it's probably the best investment in your future you can make. We're not going to go cold turkey on our fossil fuel addiction, but the more progress we can all make now, the easier our transition will be. And living lightly is our best chance for encouraging new technology.
