Their boxing bout had barely begun before Sonny Bill Williams knocked out American Clarence Tillman III.

After a cagey start by both boxers, Williams produced a left hook late in the round that had Tillman wobbling.

The TKO occurred with just six seconds to go before the end of the first round. Tillman's pre-match rap appeared to go on longer than the fisticuffs.

The 26-year-old All Black landed a series of further blows before the referee stopped the scheduled 10-round contest.

Williams wins the New Zealand Professional Boxing Association heavyweight title.

"I hope you got your money's worth," SBW told the crowd.

The win takes Williams' fight record to five wins from five bouts.

The loss was the 34-year-old Tillman's ninth of a career that has included 11 wins and two draws.

Williams, who has also been a Kiwi rugby league representative, now turns his attention to the Super rugby competition with the Chiefs.

I second him fighting Joseph Parker! That would be a test. Most fighters start off fighting no-namers so give him some time. That's boxing... you climb the ranks. Soon he'll have no choice but to raise the bar of opponents and that's when it'll become interesting. Personally, I say congrats to SBW for all that he has achieved. I don't like to see anyone fail so all the best for the future!

First of all congratulations on the win Sonny. My problem is with the NZPBA (New Zealand Professional Boxing Association) who have failed to continually stock pile their heavyweight division with credible fighters. Thats why whenever I want to see New Zealands elite boxers, I go to the NZBA (new zealand boxing association). Ahh that's right we actually have another boxing association with top fighters like chinulla, david aloua, d.light, the list goes on. Compare the NZBA and the NZPBA fighters and you will see for yourself. Sonny your a great athlete and good amateur boxer. I say you step in with the other boxing association and raise the ante. Maybe in a year take on Joseph parker. I would pay money to see that one. Again good win over tillman. NZPBA? disappointing.
